In short
What happened? With no sound in any of the 128 stock clips (12.6 minutes) filmed by Bethany Ferr on Pexels, this day with a Dalmatian and its owner became a silent 2:50 film in six chapters and a 0:31 vertical teaser. The build took 6 minutes on our office PC (Intel Core i7-7700, 16 GB of RAM) and the AI cost $1.60.

How we measured. Build time is AfterRushes’ own timer, from pressing Build (with the clips already added) to the films cut and ready to play. Adding the clips and exporting the files aren’t included. AI cost is the Claude API use AfterRushes counted for the project, at Anthropic’s list prices. Electricity, the computer and the licence aren’t in it. The films on this page are AfterRushes’ cuts as exported; any changes asked for are shown under “Changing it in plain English”.

The brief
The project asked for a three-minute landscape highlight film and a 30-second vertical teaser, with no speeches edit. A one-line note asked for a day with the dog and its owner as they play and have fun. Music: use what was recorded on the day, if any.
What went in
The clips follow a Dalmatian and its owner indoors, in a garden and in a swimming pool. The names on the film's title cards were made up for this project.
The project had 128 video clips and no photos, 12.6 minutes of footage taking up 0.4 GB. Of the clips, 90 are landscape and 38 upright, in four frame sizes, all at 25 fps. None of them has any sound, and the files don't record which camera filmed them.

What the AI noticed
- Story decision
There's no recorded speech in this footage, so I built … a visual day-in-the-life of about 2 minutes 50 seconds.
- Story decision
The 30-second vertical teaser is a fast montage of the best upright clips; neither film has music yet, because no track was supplied and none was recorded on the day.
- Set aside
5482269_a-dog-playing-with-water_1080x1920.mp4: shaking throughout
- Music suggestion
Add a light, upbeat acoustic track under both films, because none was supplied and nothing was recorded on the day.
- Suggestion
Record a short voiceover … so this talking-style vlog has a voice to lead it.
- Suggested addition
Add the quiet moment of … watching … drink his morning coffee to the breakfast section.
- Title suggestion
Put the date of the shoot on the end card …
The music
No music was recorded on the day and none was supplied, so the film has no soundtrack, and as the clips have no sound, it plays silent. Given a licensed track of your own, AfterRushes finds its beats and cuts the film to them.
Technical details
There is no soundtrack. None of the 128 clips has any sound and no track was supplied, so the film as AfterRushes made it has no sound at all, with no music, no speech and no sound from the clips. The teaser is silent too. In the Assistant, the AI said "neither film has music yet, because no track was supplied and none was recorded on the day".
At a wedding, AfterRushes uses the band or DJ recorded on the day as the soundtrack when the recording is clean enough, or the photographer's own licensed track, and the cuts land on the beat. Music for wedding films covers both.

Short videos from this film
Read the voiceover
128 clips of One Dog's Day. No talking, no script. AfterRushes watched every clip and found the story. Breakfast in bed, tricks indoors, the garden, the pool, a lazy afternoon. Six minutes later, the vlog and the vertical. Card in. Vlog out.
What it didn’t do
- No sound. The clips were silent and no track was supplied, so the film has no music and no voice. With no speech in any clip, there were no lines to lay over the pictures, as AfterRushes does with vows and toasts at a wedding.
- About ten seconds short. The film runs 2:50 against the three minutes asked for.
- Previews only. The film and teaser shown here are the app's previews, at 960×540 and 540×960. AfterRushes exports a 1920×1080 film and a 1080×1920 teaser.
- Open suggestions. The music, the voiceover, the coffee moment and the date on the end card wait for the photographer to decide.
- The final say. The AI makes the first cut. The photographer watches it through, checks the chapters and title cards, and makes it theirs on the timeline or by asking the Assistant in plain English. Making an AI first cut your own covers the changes worth making.
Questions about this film
How long did AfterRushes take to make this film?
The whole build took 6 minutes on our office PC (Intel Core i7-7700, 16 GB of RAM), from 128 clips and 12.6 minutes of footage. Times for other footage vary with the amount of footage and the computer.
What did the AI cost?
The AI cost $1.60 for this build. Full films use the photographer's own Claude key, paid directly to Anthropic with no markup, and the cost varies with the footage.
Was the footage uploaded?
No. The video files stayed on the computer, and AfterRushes never receives footage. Still frames from the clips went straight from the computer to the AI (Anthropic's Claude) to plan the film.
Can the edit be changed?
Yes. The AI makes the first cut and the photographer makes it theirs, deleting, moving and trimming shots on the timeline, changing titles, or asking the Assistant for changes in plain English. Only the shots that changed re-render.
Why does the film have no sound?
None of the 128 stock clips has any sound and no music track was supplied, so the film as AfterRushes made it is silent. At a wedding, AfterRushes uses the band or DJ recorded on the day when the recording is clean enough, or the photographer's own licensed track.
