How long will it take to upload a wedding?

Cloud AI video editors need the whole wedding uploaded before they can start: often 100 to 500 GB. Enter your footage and your upload speed.

Start it at 10 pm after the wedding and it finishes at 11:20 am the next day.

Nothing to upload

Your footage stays on your computer. Only still frames and transcripts go to the AI.

Hours = GB × 8,000 ÷ Mbps ÷ 3,600, at full speed the whole time. Real uploads are often slower.

MathsHow it’s worked out

The formula

hours = GB × 8,000 ÷ Mbps ÷ 3,600

A gigabyte is 8,000 megabits, so multiply the footage size by 8,000 to get megabits, divide by your upload speed in megabits per second to get seconds, then divide by 3,600 to get hours. For example, 300 GB at 50 Mbps is about 13 hours 20 minutes.

This assumes your connection uploads at full speed the whole time. Real uploads are often slower, and anyone else using the connection slows them further.

Find your upload speed with any broadband speed test; on many connections it’s much lower than the download speed.

The alternative: don’t upload at all

AfterRushes does all the video work on your own computer, so there’s nothing to upload. Only still frames and transcripts go to the AI.
