In short

AI editing tools charge by subscription, credit packs, per-export fees or at cost with your own key. The AI itself is billed by how much text and how many images it reads and writes. On our 26-clip test wedding the AI cost $0.55 to $0.66, and we estimate about $3 for 150 clips.

The AI video editing cost for a wedding depends on two things. One is how the tool charges you. The other is how much reading and writing the AI does for each wedding. This article explains both, gives our measured and estimated figures, and shows how to account for the cost in your packages. It’s part of our guide to AI wedding video editing.

How do AI video editing tools charge?

Tools in this category use one or more of these pricing models.

  • Monthly or annual subscription. A fixed fee whether you film one wedding that month or six. It’s predictable, but you pay through the quiet months, and it’s one more recurring bill.
  • Credit packs. You buy credits, and each film, batch of footage or export uses some up. Check whether credits expire and exactly what one credit covers.
  • Per-export fees. You pay each time you export a film. Check whether exporting again after a small change counts as a new export.
  • Bring your own key. You connect your own account with the AI provider and pay the provider directly for what you use. The tool is paid for separately, and the AI is charged at cost.

Some tools combine two of these. To compare them fairly, work out what each would cost across a full season of weddings.

How is AI billed?

Large AI models are billed by how much they read and how much they write. Text is measured in tokens, small chunks of a few characters each. Images are converted into tokens too, and a larger image counts as more. There’s one price per million tokens for what the model reads and a higher price for what it writes. Anthropic publishes its current rates on its pricing page.

For a wedding film, the AI reads still frames from each clip and the transcript of what was said. It writes a log of each clip’s best moments and then a plan for the film. The rest of the work, such as checking sharpness, finding faces, transcribing speech and finding the beats, can happen on your own computer at no AI cost.

What does the AI cost per wedding with AfterRushes?

AfterRushes uses the bring-your-own-key model. You connect your own Claude account and pay Anthropic directly for what you use, with no markup and no credits to buy from us. These are the figures we have, in US dollars.

A large wedding500about $8Estimate

The first film is free, with the AI included, for a film of up to 8 minutes, so you don’t need your own key to try it.

What makes the AI cost go up or down?

  • The number of clips. The AI reads still frames from every clip it logs, so more clips mean more images to read. That’s why the estimates above rise with clip count.
  • Unusable clips. AfterRushes sets aside clips that are black, blown out or shaking throughout before the AI stage, so no AI is spent on them.
  • Film length. A longer film gives the AI more to plan and write. An 8-minute highlight film asks more of it than a 3-minute one. How long should a wedding highlight film be? helps you choose.
  • Speech. Long speeches produce a longer transcript, which is more text for the AI to read.
  • Model choice. AfterRushes uses Claude Opus 5.5 by default. Claude Sonnet 5.5 costs about half as much. Try both on the same wedding and compare the films before deciding which to use as your default.

The work that happens on your computer doesn’t add to the AI bill. It does take time, and that time grows with the amount of footage, as explained in local vs cloud AI video editing for weddings.

How do you set up your own AI key?

Setup takes about 5 minutes.

  1. Create an account on Anthropic’s website.
  2. Add credit to the account.
  3. Create an API key.
  4. Paste the key into AfterRushes.

Because you add credit in advance, you decide how much is available to spend. Treat the key like a password. Don’t share it or post it anywhere, and if you think it has been exposed, delete it and create a new one.

How should AI cost fit into your package price?

Treat the AI like any other cost that comes with each wedding, alongside music licences, backup drives and hosting for delivery. Look at how many clips you usually come home with, take the nearest estimate above, round it up, and add it to your cost per wedding.

At a few dollars or less per wedding on our figures, the AI is unlikely to be what decides your price. Your time is. The bigger question is how the tool itself is priced. For a subscription, divide the yearly cost by the number of weddings you film in a year to see what it adds to each one. For a one-time purchase, that figure falls with every wedding you film.

If you’re pricing video for the first time, adding video to your wedding packages covers what to offer and how to present it. Our pricing page shows what AfterRushes itself costs.
